Mexico In Mexico, the category 5 hurricane Otis hit land in Acapulco (Mexico) on October 25, 2023. Fundación MAPFRE donated 150,000 euros to cover the most basic needs of the thousands of disaster victims. This financial assistance was channeled through two local institutions. On the one hand, the Mexican Red Cross, which prepared 1,500 food boxes and 1,500 personal hygiene boxes; on the other, in collaboration with Fundación Cadena, temporary shelters were created to provide a safe space for about 30 families for one year. This aid was used to purchase tents, beds and mattresses, solar lamps, 850 food kits and 850 personal hygiene kits. In addition, Fundación MAPFRE volunteers in Mexico launched a campaign to collect basic necessities to cover the needs of the victims. Thanks to this initiative, food and hygiene items were collected and sent to the affected areas. Turkey In Turkey, following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake on February 6, Turkey began to mobilize support across the country. As MAPFRE Seguros volunteers, with the support of Istanbul Vakfı and Fundación MAPFRE, we worked for three days at the Foundation’s warehouse in Istanbul, packing, organizing and preparing basic necessities to send to the disaster area.
