Descripción
In the series Los nómadas del mar (Nomads of the Sea), Paz Errázuriz delves into the everyday lives of an ageing community that lives among the canals where cholga (Magellan mussel) is harvested and reeds are collected for making baskets. The Kawésqar or Alacalufes are an animist ethnic group from Tierra del Fuego who are in the process of becoming extinct.
In 2003, once the images had been produced, Errázuriz organized an exhibition and invited the protagonists to the Espacio Cultural Casa Azul del Arte in Punta arenas. This was the same year in which Jérwar-asáwer—the true driving force that led Errázuriz to explore the Kawésqar universe—had passed away.
