In her photo essay Adam’s Apple, Paz Errázuriz offers a broad visual landscape that features the daily lives of its protagonists, Chilean sex workers. The artist captures images of the street, preparations for the night, and the many rooms in which these women pose on their beds like odalisques.
Before beginning the Adam’s Apple project, Errázuriz had already met and worked with prostitutes. Her interest in this subject continued into the series Prostíbulos (Brothels, 1999-2002), which includes photographs from several brothels in Curanilahue and Valparaíso in Chile. These images highlight the apparent level of complicity between the women and their clients. There is no glamour in these derelict establishments and female nudes are conspicuously absent.
