Avoiding miserabilism, Paz Errázuriz’s gaze focuses on human bonds rooted in affection and tenderness; on the relationships of couples formed at the Philippe Pinel psychiatric hospital. The photographs are full of hugs, intertwined hands, and bodies coming together.

Above all, the main contribution of Heart Attack of the Soul (1992-1994) lies in the in the value given to each portrayed subject’s individuality and the affective relationships that are established in confinement. A few years after concluding the series, Errázuriz returned to the same universe of reclusion and produced Antechamber of a Nude (1999).
