Alberto García-Alix is part of the photographic movement that granted visibility to marginalized populations in 1970s Spain, allowing him to assert himself and establish a relationship with society. Alix was also part of the rock scene; a way of life with a particular aesthetic and a specific set of companions whom he frequently photographs.
When observing El amo de la calle, it is striking to see how similar yet how different the dog is in comparison to the human beings. García-Alix has placed himself at the same level as the dog, overcoming the divide that usually separates the photographer and their model. Hence, the animal’s expression is not unlike that of other subjects found in his portraits.
