Fe y Alegría Brazil promotes the comprehensive development of minors and adolescents
Children and their families grow in the community through a variety of initiatives
Completed Project
Fundación MAPFRE supports different Fe y Alegría Brazil projects that pursue the comprehensive development of minors and adolescents.
The “Crescer para Ser -Educaçao, Ciudadania e Cultura” project encourages people at risk of exclusion in Brazil to remain in the educational system, to enter the labor market, to live together in solidarity and mutual respect, to participate in artistic, cultural and sporting activities and expressions, and to gain access to public services and policies. The Foundation runs workshops on citizenship and values, radio, computers, theater, dance, music, karate, capoeira and other sports, the arts, training meetings with families, nutritional guidance, food and reception and listening services.
In addition, the “Apoema” project helps 200 children and adolescents from 6 to 15 years of age from the outskirts of Manaus, to whom it offers school support activities at the Grande Vitoria Social Center for Education and Culture. Initiatives are developed on sex education, the rights and duties of children and adolescents, the environment, and values such as coexistence and culture. The activities are complemented by a vegetable garden, where the students grow part of their food and become aware of how important proper nutrition is in their development.
In the city of Nova Iguaçu, the Foundation works to transform the reality of the children who attend the “Centro Social de Educaçao e Cultura Marambaia”, in an area where the population suffers from a high degree of poverty. This project provides them with five meals a day reviewed by a nutritionist who attends to the particular needs of each one. In addition, the children, and especially their families, attend workshops that raise their awareness of the benefits of healthy eating, as a first step towards a better quality of life.
The “Popular community education and family and community development” project impacts the lives of the 260 inhabitants of the municipality of Palhoça by working on education, health, nutrition and access to the labor market. Fundación MAPFRE’s collaboration in this project covers the teaching materials required for all of the training workshops in each of the main areas of action, the hiring of qualified teachers, and the provision of food and kitchen utensils.
The Fe y Alegría Brazil Foundation has been working in Brazil since 1981, and is now active in 21 municipalities in 16 states. Its projects have already benefited nearly 21,000 people.
