Seven moments in Spanish architecture: a contemporary view of its history

At any time in history we are obliged to interpret the past, and the conscience and vision that it conveys represent, in turn, a valuable legacy for future generations, as it is in these generations that the pages of the past and the nature of those engaged in unravelling it will be overlaid. This cycle was based on that duality of vision: a study of the history of architecture in Spain through some of its most singular and characterful monuments which, at the same time, seeks to manifest the plurality of interpretations that our architectural past arouses in the present day.

Led by historian Javier Rodríguez Barberán (University of Seville), the cycle, given in February 2012, brought together architects and historians in a dialogue that ran from the Middle Ages through to the mid-twentieth century. It allowed the grouping of different methods and approaches to explore an essential part of our heritage as a living past that it is our duty to preserve, disseminate and increase.
