The career of Paz Errázuriz (Santiago de Chile, 1944) has always developed in her country, to whose political and sociological context her work continually refers.  Her images, strongly committed, want to give a voice to those who are not usually heard, images of marginalization that present her characters with trust, respect and solidarity.

A self-taught photographer, in 1981 Errázuriz founded, together with other colleagues, the Association of Independent Photographers (AFI). Moved by her interest in exploring the reality of those on the margins of society, the artist set out, with virtually no reference point, to photograph children, the elderly, men and women in psychiatric institutions, transsexuals, prostitutes, individuals sleeping unprotected in the street, and more recently, Native Americans. Errázuriz delves into the most uncomfortable corners of everyday life in Chile, presenting those who, from the margins, mark, even without an explicit desire to criticize, different forms of resistance to the rules imposed.

As time passed, this interest was turned into coexistence, trust and respect for his portraits, a feeling that the wide body of work Errázuriz has developed over the course of his career clearly reveals.

His work can be seen in some of the most relevant collections on the international scene, including the Tate Gallery in London, the MoMA in New York and the Guggenheim and National Fine Arts Museums in Chile. He has also been awarded various national and international prizes, including the PHotoEspaña Prize in 2015, the year in which he also represented Chile at the Venice Biennale, and the 2017 Chilean National Fine Arts Prize.
