Considered one of the most important photographers of his generation, Garry Winogrand participated in the renowned exhibition titled New Documents hosted at The Museum of Modern Art in New York along with Diane Arbus and Lee Friedlander. Aside from displaying the influence that Walker Evans and Robert Frank had on the three artists, the exhibition established a new and more approachable way of understanding photography, highlighting the differences between this new generation of documentary artists and those who had preceded them.
Winogrand’s compositions delve into 1960s New York, offering a perspective of the dynamic world that unfolded at the 1964 World’s Fair in Queens, which was attended by visitors from all over the world.
